Dog owners accounted for approximately one third of claims notified, surpassing 1m in 2022 (up 34%). As gross claims reached £800m in 2022, the average claim fell by 8%, from £849 to £777. This is the first time the average claim value has fallen since 2017.
In 2022, for cats, the total number of claims notified and claims incurred increased to 270,000 and £180m, respectively. Here, the average cat claim increased to £682 per claim.
